Building a Wellness Brand Before Opening Day | Fourth Space Studios in Park City, Utah
I think one of my favorite stages of a business to photograph is right before it opens.
There's so much happening behind the scenes. The business owners are taking on a million different responsibilities, building their teams, making decisions about their space, and trying to get everything ready for opening day.
And somewhere in the middle of all that, they also need to start marketing!
I recently had the opportunity to shoot brand content for Kendall and Madeline, the women behind Fourth Space Studios, a new fitness and wellness studio coming to Junction Commons in Park City, Utah.
And I have to say, I'm a bit of a business fangirl when it comes to these two!
Creating Brand Photography for a New Wellness Studio
Fourth Space Studios is bringing together several different approaches to fitness and wellness under one roof.
Their classes include Hot Pilates, Hot Sculpt, strength training, Hot Yoga, Hot Deep Stretch, and guided breathwork.
I love that they've created a business where someone can come in for an intense workout one day and focus on recovery or stretching the next.
But here's what makes photographing a new wellness business a little different.
When we scheduled their brand session, their actual studio space was still being built out!
They needed professional content for their website, social media, and marketing before they could even welcome their first clients.
And that's exactly why planning a brand photography session early in the process is so useful.
Your Clients Want to Know What They're Signing Up For
Think about the last time you signed up for a fitness class somewhere new.
Did you look at their website? Check out their Instagram? Try to get a feel for the instructors or the types of people who attend?
I know I do!
Walking into a new fitness studio can be intimidating, especially if you're trying something you've never done before.
One of the best things a wellness business can do with its marketing is help potential clients feel comfortable before they ever walk through the doors.
That's where lifestyle brand photography comes in.
Instead of relying on generic stock photos of people exercising, we can create images of the actual instructors, the types of classes being offered, and the experience clients can expect.
For Fourth Space Studios, that meant photographing their team and creating content that fit the look and direction of the brand they're building.
Potential clients get to see the people they'll be working with. And when they eventually show up for their first class, those faces are already a little familiar.
I think that makes a difference!
Your Team Is One of Your Biggest Marketing Assets
One of the things that impressed me most about Kendall and Madeline was the team they've put together.
They're building a business from the ground up, and they've clearly put a lot of thought into the people who will represent Fourth Space Studios.
For wellness businesses, instructors and staff are a huge part of the client experience.
Someone might initially sign up because they're interested in Pilates or yoga, but the relationships they build with their instructors can become one of the reasons they keep coming back.
So why wouldn't we feature those people in the marketing?
During a brand content session, I love creating a variety of images. Individual portraits are important, but so are group photos and lifestyle images that show the team interacting.
These images give a business so many more options than traditional headshots alone.
They can introduce instructors on social media, create individual bios on their website, promote upcoming classes, or highlight the team as the business grows.
And because everything is photographed together, the images have a consistent look that fits the brand.
One Brand Photography Session, Months of Marketing Content
Something I talk about often with my business clients is how important it is to think beyond the immediate need for photos.
Sure, you might need a few images for your website.
But what about next month's social media posts? Your email newsletters? Class announcements? New instructor introductions?
A well-planned content session can help with all of those things.
For a fitness or wellness studio, I recommend planning for several types of images:
Team and instructor headshots for websites, scheduling platforms, and social media introductions.
Lifestyle fitness photography showing real movement, classes, and instruction.
Group images that highlight the people behind the business.
Detail and environmental photos that show the studio, equipment, and overall experience.
Marketing content with negative space for adding text, promotions, and class announcements.
The goal is to walk away with a library of images that can be used in different ways over time.
And for new businesses like Fourth Space Studios, having that content ready before opening day means one less thing to worry about!

I've had the opportunity to photograph businesses in all kinds of industries, but I especially love working with business owners who have a very specific vision for what they're building.
Kendall and Madeline are a great example.
They've taken on so many responsibilities to get Fourth Space Studios ready, and I loved getting to spend time with the women who will be bringing their vision to life.
I'm excited to see their finished space at Junction Commons and watch their business grow!
