Why Brand Photography Matters — and Why I Loved Shooting This Utah Brand Session
As a personal branding photographer in Utah, I get to do a lot of quick sessions—especially headshots. But when I have the opportunity to slow down and really spend time with a client, everything shifts. That’s why I love brand sessions.
Brand photography gives me more than just a few minutes with someone. I get to dig a little deeper into the “why” behind what they do, how they show up in their space, and what kind of energy they want to communicate in their visuals. And when we nail that—when we capture a set of images that actually feel like them—it’s magic.
This session with Katie Woodward was no different. Except... it kind of was. Because Katie also happens to be one of my very best friends. So really, it was also just the best excuse ever to hang out!
But even if she weren’t one of my favorites, I would still be talking about this shoot. Katie is building Sage Haven Health—a business she’s passionate about—while still being a key part of the team at her full-time job. She’s invested in her training and traveled across the world to become certified in the areas she wants to focus on. It’s no surprise that everything she does is thoughtful and intentional, and I wanted the photos we took to reflect that.
Our session focused on capturing who Katie is as a wellness professional—calm, approachable, grounded. Whether she’s helping clients through trauma-informed yoga or sharing tools to regulate their nervous systems, her work is all about helping people feel safe and empowered. We shot in a natural light space that allowed for movement and stillness—something that mirrors the work she does so well.
This brand session felt like the perfect mix of personal and professional, and the kind of shoot that reminds me why branding photography is such an important piece of showing up confidently in your business.
If you're a coach, wellness practitioner, or building a personal brand in Utah, a brand session is one of the most useful tools you can have. These aren’t just pretty pictures. They're assets that help people see what it feels like to work with you. And that’s powerful.
If you’re in Utah County and looking for a trauma-informed yoga course, Katie is starting one soon and I can’t recommend it enough. I did one myself after going through a divorce, and it truly changed the way I connected with my body and emotions. You can check out more about her here: Sage Haven Health.
And if you’re ready to show up for your brand like Katie did—reach out! Let’s make images that look like you.
